Choose your path
Two programs. One method, taught by the teacher who created it.
Where you begin depends on where you are. The 200-hour is your foundation. The 300-hour is advanced training for teachers who already hold a 200-hour certification.
200-hour
For the practitioner considering teaching
Youâve been practicing for years. Is it time to teach?
Knowing the poses isnât the same as knowing how to teach them. The 200-hour gives you what sits underneath the sequence â anatomy, structure, hands-on adjustment, and the voice you cue with â so your first room feels like teaching, not performing.
- The Barkan Method from the ground up, posture by posture
- How to hold a room: cueing, sequencing, adjustments
- Live mentorship with Jimmy while you learn, not after
300-hour
For certified 200-hour teachers ready to deepen their understanding, refine their teaching, and continue toward the 500-hour level.
You already teach. Now go deeper.
Advanced study for teachers who want to refine how they teach and expand what they know â subtler adjustments, deeper anatomy, the philosophy and breath work behind the sequence, and honest coaching on the habits that shape your room.
- Refine your teaching with direct feedback from Jimmy
- Expand into advanced anatomy, philosophy, and pranayama
- Go deeper into the method itself â 44 years of it
Why this training
This isnât a certificate mill. Itâs eight weeks with me, personally, learning the method deeply enough to teach it in your own voice instead of someone elseâs script.

Access to everything
The postures are the easy part. Finding your voice is everything.
Iâve taught yoga since 1981. I opened my first studio in 1983, became Bikramâs most senior teacher, and in 2002 I created my own approach, the Barkan Method. Since then Iâve certified more than 2,500 teachers all over the world.
Hereâs the part that matters for you. My degree is in fine arts from NYU, and to this day I still sing and perform around South Florida, so I know exactly what it is to stand in front of a room and feel exposed. Teaching yoga can be intimidating. Most people hide behind the instructions and never let their own personality come through. Helping you find your own authentic voice, and get past feeling self-conscious, is the thing I care about most. Thatâs what these 44 years have really been about.

Is this you?
Whichever path you take, you learn it live, in a small group, from the person who created the method.
The people who do best here care about the craft â how a room breathes, why a posture sits where it does in the sequence, what to say to the student who is struggling. The certificate is what you leave with, not the reason you came.
In their words
The ones who find their voice.
âThis training impacted my teaching not only as a yoga teacher but also as a college professor. The emphasis on finding an authentic voice opened avenues of exploration and depth that nourish the mind, body, and spirit.â
Kristalyn, USA
âBeing naturally shy myself, I donât know what my teaching would look like without your encouragement to find my own voice and not copy someone else. It has been fundamental to the way I teach.â
Jo, USA
âI loved the sessions on âFinding Your Voice.â I feel more confident teaching postures to all levels now, even ones I cannot do myself.â
